Captain Bruce W. Shuler, the brainchild of Getaway Adventures Lodge, has been fishing the lower Laguna Madre since he was a child.  Cappy, as affectionately known by his grand daughter and friends, grew up fishing the bays of the Texas gulf coast before switching over to tournament freshwater bass fishing while working in Houston and raising a family.  However, the call of the sea became to much and at the ripe young age of 50  he decide to finally pursue his life long dream and vision and create a modern, state of the art, yet true to a rustic feel, lodge to share with anglers his knowledge and passion for the sport of fishing.  Espousing upon his life long dream, Getaway Adventures Lodge was built by hand and sweat on weekends off from his general contracting profession in Houston.

Captain Brandon Shuler is a true waterman in every sense of the word. From the time he was little using a bleach bottle as a floatation device to now chasing the largest species of fish and waves around the world, Brandon has been drawn to the water. A dedicated conservationist and educator, Brandon, strives to teach others about the beauty, wonder, and fragility of the ocean. Brandon is Getaway Adventures Lodge's resident fly aficionado. Brandon led his clients, in 2006, to two IGFA WR's and 12 Texas State Blue Water Records. Taking Texas Offshore Fly Fishing to new heights, Brandon launched the Deep Blue Fly Experience to create a community of like minded individuals. Brandon is quickly making a name for himself in tight fly fishing circles and strives to push the sport beyond its current limits.

Our store is located on the north shore of beautiful Falcon Lake, which is the ideal spot for big mouth bass, catfish, and crappie or just to enjoy the beautiful sunsets of South Texas. The Rio Grande River feeds Falcon Lake, so half of the lake is located in Texas and the other half in Mexico. Take a fishing trip with our fishing guide on the lake for half-day or full-day excursions in a Skeeter boat with a 250 HP Yamaha™ motor. Take advantage of the beautiful year round warm weather down in Zapata, Tx. You will enjoy, and will sure come back again.
